It has been two decades since Carmen Electrareleased a record, but hopefully the recent release of two singles will mark the resurrection of her music career.

It was, after all, the genre where she got her start, having been discovered by Prince, who produced her first self-titled album in 1993. The album wasn’t a success, and Electra left the music scene, concentrating on modeling (including her celebrated Playboy cover) and acting (“Baywatch” on television and the “Scary Movie” series at the movies.) That, though, didn’t mean she wanted to put music behind her. “I’ve missed performing,” Carmen told me. “I truly love… to be creative and perform in front of an audience.”

Porn Industry May Shut Down for Round 2 on HIV Scare

Porn actors Rod Daily, left, and Cameron Bay tested positive for HIV in the last month. A third actor has reportedly tested positive for the virus, leading the industry trade group to call for a moratorium on filming.
Porn actors Rod Daily, left, and Cameron Bay tested positive for HIV in the last month. A third actor has reportedly tested positive for the virus, leading the industry trade group to call for a moratorium on filming.

The U.S. porn industry may shut down for the second time in a month after a third actor reportedly tested positive for HIV this week.

The identity of the actor has not been released. The positive test was confirmed by a doctor at a health facility used by the porn industry, an industry trade group said.

Joanne Cachapero, membership director of the trade group, the Free Speech Coalition, said the group didn’t know whether the infected actor contracted the virus during a shoot.

“While we don’t have evidence to suggest an on-set transmission as opposed to a transmission from non-industry (off-camera) related activity, we are taking every measure to determine the source and to protect the performer pool,” Cachapero said in a statement to Reuters.

(CNN) — “American Idol” now has its panel of judges for next season.

Fox has announced that singers Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. will join last season’s judge, country star Keith Urban, at the judges table for Season 13.

“I have always been a huge fan of ‘American Idol’ and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show,” Connick said in Fox’s statement. “And I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season. As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to ‘American Idol,’ and to help emerging performers find their way.”

Lopez, who served as a judge during Season 11, tweeted: “#IDOL2014TheRemix.”

The seats have been vacant since Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj announced that they would not be returning after their stints judging arguably the country’s most successful singing competition.

Former judge Randy Jackson will step into the role of in-house mentor for the contestants, it was announced.

“Surprise, surprise! I am so happy to be back as part of this amazing show that started it all,” said Jackson, who had served as a judge on the show since the first season. “Season 1-3 is the place to be. The original talent show is back with a vengeance and ready to discover the best talent in America.”

Urban also expressed his excitement.

“I think this season of ‘Idol’ is gonna be a blast,” the Fox statement quoted Urban as saying. “New team, new energy and a whole new field of artists to be discovered and given a chance!”

The new season of “Idol” is slated to begin in January.

Lady Gaga Performs 8 Songs from Forthcoming ARTPOP @ iTunes Fest

As reported by Peter Holslin for RollingStone Magazine

Lady Gaga debuted several new songs in a theatrical, hour-long concert at London’s Roundhouse on Sunday, playing eight cuts off her upcoming album, ARTPOP, as part of a show that was broadcast live online for the month-long iTunes Festival.

Playing for a packed crowd of adoring Little Monsters, the provocative singer wasn’t able to unseat Miley Cyrus as the most controversial star of the moment, but did deliver some musical surprises. The opening song of the night – which found Gaga performing in a freaky black mask while holed up in a cage, Hannibal Lecter-style – featured a dubstep-style bass drop. Later, rappers Too Short and Twista showed up to deliver verses for a hip-hop banger called “Jewels & Drugs.” (T.I. was also featured in the song, but he couldn’t make it to the concert, so his voice played over the sound system.)

While playing these brand-new selections from ARTPOP – which comes out via Interscope on November 11th – Gaga occasionally dialed back the theatricality to hint at her human side. At one point, she removed a humongous brown wig to reveal her real hair underneath. Her voice getting shaky, she told the audience that when she was younger, she did things that ended up making her feel “like trash on the inside.”

That intimacy didn’t last long, though. Seated at a keyboard, she started playing a song called “Swine,” which opened with some quiet, reflective notes before bursting into a wailing rock ballad, and then a pumping club blowout. Gaga banged on drums and cried defiant lines – “You’re so disgusting!” – and in a finale, dancers wearing pig masks and what appeared to be astronaut costumes soared into air on cables, where they pulled off coordinated somersaults.

Gaga ended her show with a performance of “Applause,” Artpop’s lead single. But before that, she debuted a sentimental tribute to her adoring fans. Seated solo at her keyboard, she pointed to her London audience as she sang: “I wanna be with you.” With the live-stream beaming across the web, it wasn’t long before fans were professing their love, too, in the form of a Twitter hashtag: #WEWANNABEWITHYOU

Hot Guys With Guns Trailer

Handsome, reckless Pip gets drugged and robbed at an orgy. Danny, his sexy but sensible ex-boyfriend, is an actor taking a private investigator class—he’s up for a part on a cop show. There’s still a strong sexual and emotional tension between them that builds as they investigate a series of robberies and murders at the sex parties of rich and powerful gay men. With the help of Jimmy, a seen-it-all PI, they play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a ruthless killer, finding plenty of laughs along the way. In his debut feature, writer-director Doug Spearman, a 2009 Outfest Screenwriting Lab fellow for the HOT GUYS WITH GUNS screenplay, deftly balances action (both kinds) and witty comedy.

Doug Spearman will be available in person for after screening Q&A.

Let Miley Cyrus Be A Lesson to Disney Starlet Zendaya (Coleman)

I’m sure, or at least I hope, the recent, ummm, performance? by Miley Cyrus at the VMAs on August 25 will soon be a joke that we forgot the punch line to. But, in the meantime, I hope up and coming popstar Oakland-native Zendaya Coleman, a Disney star from the channel’s series Shake It Up, takes notes from former Disneyites Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan and studies them hard. They are classic examples of how not to turn out, my dear.

Britney Hires Vocal Coach and Begins Choreography for Comeback

According to NME Magazine:

Britney Spears has hired a vocal coach as she prepares for her comeback.

The ‘Toxic’ singer recently teased fans with the prospect of a big announcement by unveiling a mysterious countdown on her official website. “ALL EYES ON ME” are the only words on the countdown page and at the time of writing the ticker has around 21 days remaining.

A spokesperson for Spears told Digital Spy: “Britney has been using a vocal coach and going to regular sessions and has also been working hard with her choreographer in preparation for what’s coming up!

“With album eight on its way and a rumoured Las Vegas residency in the pipeline, eagle-eyed fans have spotted that all of Britney’s social networks have adopted a blacked-out theme… the mystery continues!”

Meanwhile, Charli XCX has confirmed that she has written and submitted a new song for Britney Spears forthcoming new album. “I’ve been doing some writing for the Britney record. I was freaking out. I didn’t even want to go to the session I was so excited. I was so worried I would fuck it up,” said the 21 year old. “I was doing some stuff for that yesterday actually. Who knows how it will go. We’ve written one song and it’s a great track and if she likes it then amazing. It was just an honour to be asked.”

It was recently reported that Spears will head to the Lake District to work on tracks for her forthcoming album with UK producer, and Tinie Tempah collaborator Naughty Boy as a producer on the project. He is apparently planning to take her to Cumbria for creative inspiration.

As well as Naughty Boy, Spears’ collaborators on her forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2011’s ‘Femme Fatale’, include Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange, William Orbit, Sia and will.i.am.
